I am excited to share the following resources that have helped me in my journey.

Self-Inquiry Practices

Mindfulness & meditation

  • Spiritual Reality Power Of Meditation – the best simple explanation of meditation I’ve come across.
  • Meditation is Not What You Think – a YouTube playlist (not just this one video) by Glorian that I highly recommend.
    • From what I understand, Glorian is a channel focused on gnostic teachings. I consider myself a floater between different spiritual styles or traditions, though have learned a lot from gnostic content creators like Glorian and Astral Doorway on YouTube.
  • Vipassana: for those that want to progress very quickly, I recommend signing up for a 10-day silent meditation known as Vipassana. I attended a 10-day silent vipassana in Thailand (with a slightly different instruction style than the link) and it absolutely changed my life.

Packing

  • “One Bagging” – the strategy of using only one bag while traveling. This has helped me travel smartly and lightly. Admittedly, I’ve only done “1.5 bagging” which means a carry-on sized backpack and a smaller personal item (i.e. no checked bags) for my trips.
    • OneBag.com: the philosophy behind one bagging and a good starter.
    • OneBag subreddit: a community dedicated to sharing tips and packing lists for One Bagging.
    • HerOneBag subreddit: a OneBag community dedicated to women and LGBTQ+ who often have different packing lists. I’ve found this community more fun and inclusive, less “bro-y.”
  • My carry-on backpack – the ULA Camino: After searching for a bag that would fit in any carry-on size globally, I settled on this. I’ve been happy so far. It expands and contracts as I’ve needed. Note: often, international carry-on and personal item sizes are smaller. Always check the dimensions of carry-on items before/when purchasing flights. I travel with a roll-up tape measure to do my own measurements on the road.
  • My packing list (LighterPack): a list of every item I brought with on a recent 2 month trip to Peru and Colombia. Keeping a list has helped make the following trip extremely easy to prepare for. I also keep a list of tasks to prepare before a trip.

International / travel debit cards

  • I recommend having extra debit cards while traveling. Sometimes cards deactivate (grrr: the magnet on the AirPods case or a scratch) or lost (e.g. ATMs in Thailand dispense money before giving you your card back – making your card easier to forget). Amex is often not accepted abroad & Bank of America’s VISA debit card surprisingly did not work in Brazil.
  • Wise and Revolut are my go-to’s for me and many people that I’ve met abroad. Both offer near-unbeatable exchange rates. I also travel with a Coinbase debit card, CashApp card, my second bank account’s debit card, and my small business credit card. I keep them deactivated/frozen and in aluminum foil while not in use.
  • Add your cards to your digital wallet and pay with that whenever possible for increased security.
